Kid's Classes
KIDS 4-6
This is the very first course your children will start with. In this class, our main focus is building self-esteem and a sense of respect for rules, and from a technical point of view, teaching drills and fun games to start working on coordination and basic BJJ technique for further development.
Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 pm, and Saturdays at 9:30 AM
KIDS 7-10
This program is structured to develop Brazilian jiu-jitsu for kids from 8 to 10 years old. The aim is to build self-discipline and explore an overview of all positions and situations, building a solid foundation of basic technique.
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm, and Saturdays at 10.30 AM
TEENS 11-13
Our teen’s Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 PM & Saturday at 10:30AM; classes focus on building a strong BJJ foundation and implementing self-defense techniques. The students cover more in-depth BJJ scenarios and learn foundational techniques.
Child Safeguarding Statement
(Children First Act 2015)
JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu provides structured martial arts and sporting activities for children and young people in a supervised environment.
In accordance with Section 11 of the Children First Act 2015, this Child Safeguarding Statement has been developed following a written assessment of the potential risks of harm to children while availing of our services.
1. Statement of Commitment
JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all members, particularly children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to protect children from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation and to provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where children can train and develop.
We believe that:
The welfare of children is paramount
All children have the right to be safe, heard, respected, and protected
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility
All concerns and allegations will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately
This Child Safeguarding Statement is prepared in accordance with:

2. Scope
This Child Safeguarding Statement applies to:
All coaches, assistant coaches, staff, and volunteers
All members and participants under 18
All activities organised by or on behalf of JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
This includes activities that take place:
On club premises
Off-site (competitions, events, seminars, trips)
Online, where communication is related to club activities
3. Risk Assessment Summary
JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has carried out a written Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment which identifies potential risks of harm to children while participating in club activities.
The following risks have been identified:
Risk of harm during training sessions and physical contact inherent to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Risk associated with one-to-one coaching situations
Risk in changing areas, waiting areas, and toilet facilities
Risk during competitions, events, or off-site activities
Risk of bullying, harassment, or inappropriate peer behaviour
Risk posed by unvetted or inadequately trained individuals
Risk arising from poor supervision or unclear roles
Risk associated with photography, video recording, and online communication
Appropriate procedures and controls have been put in place to manage and reduce these risks.
A separate written Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment document is maintained by the club and is available on request.
4. Safeguarding Procedure in Place
To manage the risks identified above, JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has implemented the following procedures:
Garda Vetting is completed prior to engagement for all staff and volunteers working with children
A Designated Liaison Person (DLP) and Deputy DLP are appointed
Codes of Conduct are in place for coaches, staff, volunteers, children, and parents/guardians
Safeguarding training is provided to relevant personnel
Clear internal reporting and record-keeping procedures are in place
Appropriate supervision ratios are maintained at all times
One-to-one situations are avoided where possible and managed safely
Photography and social media policies are enforced
Complaints and disciplinary procedures are documented
6. Designated Liaison Person (DLP)
The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for receiving safeguarding concerns and determining whether a report should be made to statutory authorities.

7. Mandated Persons
Some roles within JS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu may meet the definition of a Mandated Person under the Children First Act 2015 due to the nature of their work with children.
Mandated Persons have a legal obligation to report child protection concerns that reach the mandated threshold directly to Tusla.
All staff and volunteers, whether mandated or not, must report safeguarding concerns internally to the Designated Liaison Person without delay.

Parents and guardians
Children and young people in an age-appropriate format
On request by Tusla or other statutory authorities
