Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for weight loss

Everyone pick up sport for different reasons, me for example, I started BJJ because I needed a sport to keep me in check and staying healthy, and so it happened that the BJJ gym was the closest to my home.

Yes BJJ is about ground fight, self-defense, and above all a martial art; but is also a great workout, and you will move your body in ways that you have never done before, supporting your weight loss and pushing you towards a healthy lifestyle.

If you, like me, have struggled before with staying healthy, or creating a solid routine to attend the gym, or yet again feeling overwhelmed when walking into one, or simply not sure where to start, then BJJ might be the best thing you will do for yourself. Keep scrolling to get to know more.

WEIGHT LOSS IS A DIFFICULT PROCESS

But let´s not lose all our hopes already. In simple words, losing weight happen when we experience a calories deficit, meaning the calories out are more than the calories in, starving is not a viable option, as you will not have energy to get on with your day, so how to do it? We must bring in the good calories, healthy carbs, proteins, fats and follow a good exercise routine to burn them.

DISTRACTIONS ARE EVERYWHERE

It is amazing how simple is to join the colleague after work for beers and snacks, or give in to the unhealthy options of comfort foods when at work or order in a delivery meal, but we do not often realize how badly they affect our body and how much extra calories that we do not need we are actually taking in.

BJJ COMMUNITIES ARE FILLED WITH PEOPLE THAT PUSH YOU TOWARDS A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

It is also amazing seeing that when you walk into a gym, the majority of the people are pushing themselves to be the best version they can be; and it is much easier to stay on track when we are surrounded with people that are walking toward the same directions that you are going.

If you take up BJJ 3 times a week, also mean that there will be less time spent in binge eating while watching Netflix after work, or drinking and eating out during the week, but instead you will be at the gym working your calories down, and once you are home craving some good fuel for the body to rest and recover correctly.

The fuel you bring in your body will determine how much energy you will have during your day, and also leading to your BJJ class and after, good healthy food can help you be more energized, awake and ready to take on your day.
